title
Request for approval to execute an interlocal agreement with UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY, a Delaware Corporation, in the amount of $25,000.00 in connection with the Fairmont Parkway - 4 - From Driftwood Drive to 14th Street - 2024 project, Precinct 2, MWBE Contracted Goal: Exempt - Interlocal/Cooperative Agreement.

Background and Discussion:
This segment of the Fairmont Parkway project includes constructing an additional 12' outside lane in each direction, repairing and/or overlaying of existing pavement, adding new sidewalks (8' north side and 10' south side) and improving drainage through widening the center drainage ditch and regrading the outer drainage ditches. The project also includes restriping of the bridges spanning over Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks to accommodate the additional lanes, and proposes a pedestrian barrier, and pedestrian and street lighting on the bridges. Because the project spans over UPRR tracks and can potentially affect the operations at or near their track, their review and approval of the associated design is required. The project is located in the City of LaPorte.
Expected Impact:
This project seeks to improve transportation and pedestrian mobility by improving road conditions to enhance traffic flow and provide smoother and safer travel for motorists, while also creating a pedestrian-friendly environment by constructing sidewalks, promoting active transportation, and improving overall pedestrian access.
Alternative Options:
The County could elect to fund the requested task or choose to reject it. However, if not approved, the consultant will not be able to complete the scope of work.
