Background and Discussion:

The State of Texas has mandated that an emergency medical service provider must obtain a letter of approval from Commissioners Court during their application process to provide emergency medical services (emergency and non-emergency).  Reference Health & Safety Code 773.0573(b).

 

HCFMO has informally assisted the County Judge’s Office with this process but has worked with the County Attorney’s Office to develop a standard practice for receiving required documentation to make an informed recommendation to Harris County Commissioners Court for action. 

 

Expected Impact: Better defined process and Court authority authorizing HCFMO to conduct services. 

 

Alternative Options:

Process remains the sole responsibility of the Commissioners Court’s Office representative or could be assigned to public health.
