Background and Discussion: To address the rising number of fires at recycling and disposal facilities, likely due to improperly discarded lithium-ion batteries, and the growing risk of lithium-ion fires in homes and buildings, the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office (HCFMO) launched the “Take C.H.A.R.G.E. of Battery Safety” campaign on November 1st, 2024. This campaign runs through Christmas Day, coinciding with the season of increased purchases and use of lithium-ion batteries in homes. Developed by the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) and supported by the US Fire Administration, this campaign focuses on raising awareness and educating our communities on lithium-ion safety through six essential steps:

●                     Choose certified products

●                     Handle lithium-ion battery-powered devices with care

●                     Always stay alert for warning signs

●                     Recycle devices and batteries properly

●                     Get out quickly if there’s a fire

●                     Educate others on battery safety
