Background and Discussion:

The goal of the project is to maximize the detention volume prior to a significant rainfall event by pumping out the water thereby increasing the available volume in the Goforth Park Detention Basin.

Expected Impact:

The court action will grant CenterPoint Energy a utility and an aerial easement to construct a power line on Goforth Park property needed to provide power to the pump station. The pump station is meant to reduce the water surface in the detention basin in order to provide additional storage volume in an effort to alleviate flood risk in the watershed.

Alternative Options:

If CenterPoint Energy is not granted the easements to construct the power line, then the pump station would be forced to rely on an expensive and maintenance intensive diesel generator, which is not ideal.
