Project Description:

This project is to drill a new water well in Dyess Park to replace an old well that has partially collapsed and needs to be replaced.

Project Scope:

The project will include drilling a replacement water well and refurbishing the existing surface equipment needed to provide irrigation for the sports fields in Dyess Park.

Justification:

The existing water well is very old and has begun to produce large amounts of sand.  Washing out the well has failed, and the damage would be expensive to repair if repair is even possible.  The water is needed to assure that the fields are maintained in reasonable condition for the public to use them.

Alternatives and Engagement:

Repairing the existing well is deemed to be too risky since there is a significant chance the effort would be unsuccessful.  There is no close by MUD to connect to for the needed water supply, and MUDs in the area would require more than a mile of pipeline.
