Background and Discussion:

In October 2021, Commissioners Court voted to use $22 million of its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Each Precinct can propose a project of up to $2 million that meets the CPTED goals. CPTED projects alter the physical design of communities to discourage criminal activities. Precinct 4 will be investing $2 million from CPTED to plant and maintain trees and small shrubs within roadway medians over a three-year period.

Expected Impact:

Crime prevention through environmental design, improved quality of life, and to create a linear forest to mitigate the impact of the urban heat island effects within the Alief community.

Alternative Options:

Court may elect to not move forward, and HCED can explore additional options, however this will cause project delays.

_ Housing
