Background and Discussion:
The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is a component of the United States Department of Justice. OVW administers Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grants designed to prevent and respond to domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Harris County District Attorney’s Office (HCDAO) is seeking federal grant funds in the amount of $1,500,000 for the grant period beginning October 1, 2026, and ending September 30, 2029.
Expected Impact:
This funding assists tribal, state, and local governments and courts to strengthen the criminal justice response to domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by improving offender accountability, victim safety, homicide reduction, protection-order enforcement, and coordinated law enforcement and prosecutorial action. This grant will fund the HCDAO Domestic Violence High-Risk Advocate Project.

Without approval, the Domestic Violence High-Risk Advocate Project would go unfunded.
