Background and Discussion:

Since the establishment of Harris County’s Energy Management team in the Office of County Administration Sustainability Division, optimizing HVAC scheduling and tracking utility data have been key activities towards enhancing operational efficiency and the reduction of energy consumption and greenhouses gases (GHG) across Harris County facilities. The success of the team has created more opportunities and additional workload. The creation of this role will help accelerate the pace of energy and utility savings.

Expected Impact:

With the creation of this position, the Energy Management team will be positioned to expand their work on reducing energy use in County buildings while ensuring thermal comfort for all employees and contractors. In addition, this role will support utility management efforts by analyzing utility bills, addressing utility-related inquiries, and ensuring all energy-related operations comply with County policies and sustainability goals.

Alternative Options:

Not creating this position will limit the growth of utility savings and GHG reductions.
