Background and Discussion:

The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Applied Epidemiology Fellowship is a nationally recognized two-year training program, developed in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), designed to build long-term public health workforce capacity by placing early-career epidemiologists in state and local health departments.

Expected Impact:

The expected impact of this item is a significant boost to Harris County Public Health’s ability to analyze health data, monitor disease trends, support outbreak response, and strengthen equity-focused public health programs. By adding a dedicated epidemiology Fellow, the department can enhance the quality and timeliness of decision-making, improve service delivery for high-need communities, and build long-term workforce capacity that supports more resilient and effective public health operations across Harris County.
