Background and Discussion:

The Harris County Engineering Department served as the Project Sponsor for the San Jacinto Regional Flood Planning Group during the first planning cycle and program development.  On July 27, 2023, Harris County Commissioner’s Court authorized Harris County Engineering Department to continue to serve as the Project Sponsor.  The San Jacinto Regional Flood Planning Group selected HCED as Project Sponsor for the second cycle on August 10, 2023.   The San Jacinto Regional Flood Planning Group was tasked to develop a comprehensive Regional Flood Plan for the San Jacinto watershed region, which identifies Flood Management Evaluations (FMEs), Flood Management Strategies (FMSs), and Flood Mitigation Projects (FMPs) for future grant funds.

Expected Impact:

This role will allow Harris County to best assist the State in ensuring a quality plan is created for our region. All identified FMEs, FMSs and FMPs in the Regional Flood Plan will be incorporated into the State Flood Plan, which becomes eligible for future grant funds. The input of the Harris County Engineering Department is vital to any future projects that impact the residents of Harris County.
