Background and Discussion:

Project included the reconstruction of Telge Road from 1,650-ft North of Louetta Road to 1,780-ft North of Telge Ranch Road.  Reconstruction includes an upgrade of the roadway from a two-lane asphalt road with open ditches to a 4-lane concrete curb and gutter boulevard with a 32' raised median.  Mandrel testing were implemented as quality assurance measures despite not being specified; in addition, the pilot channel was replaced with a ditch channel due to the proposed wet pond bottom, requiring separate excavation, and a 1-foot clay liner was added to mitigate erosion in sandy conditions during vegetation establishment; furthermore, a 16-inch gate valve was added after water line installation due to evolving system requirements and escalating material costs.

The change in contract includes the following:

New Items:

  • Mandrel Testing                                          1 EA = $11,321.73
  • Pond Earthen Channel                      178 CY = $14,686.78
  • 16" gate valve including escalation cost I EA = $20,895.39
  • Installation of 16" gate valve on previously installed waterline 1 EA = $5,000.00

Existing items overrun

  • Riprap 18” gradation No.1 119 SY = $15,556.87
  • Pond Slope Treatment 1’ thick 250 CY = $11,010.00

Reduction of existing items

  • Reinforced Concrete Pilot Channel 710 SY = $59,292.10

Expected Impact:

This change will allow the Contractor to be properly compensated for the additional work.

Alternative Options:

Conduct thorough pre-construction assessments and detailed utility mapping to identify and mitigate potential conflicts early.
