title
Request for approval to execute an interlocal agreement with the City of Deer Park to build Phase 2 of the Battleground hike-and-bike trail, adding 3,800 feet of new path and completing 1.3 miles of trail improvements, UPIN 24102MF31F02, Precinct 2.
end
Background and Discussion:
City of Deer Park identified the need for a Comprehensive Trail Plan in its 2013-2023 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan and incorporated it into its Strategic Plan as a priority amenity for residents. The trail system was also included in the Type B Economic Development Sales and Use Tax Proposition as a key future project. Over the past decade, the City has invested nearly $2 million to expand and enhance its trail network.
Expected Impact:
The Battleground Hike and Bike Trail Phase 2 will help reduce pedestrian traffic along major roads and create a continuous north-south connection on the City’s east side. Although the trail will cross E. San Augustine and P Street, both locations experience minimal vehicle traffic due to dead-end conditions. The trail will be placed at the end of these dead-ends to avoid any traffic hazards.
Alternative Options:
The alternative option for this proposal would be denial of this project which may cause a negative impact for surrounding communities
County Strategic Plan Goal: 2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.
