Background and Discussion:

This grant would enable the Sheriff’s Office to hire a full-time Deputy to review cold cases that have solvability potential. The grant would also be used to pay for overtime hours worked by investigators to solve cold case homicides. The grant period is October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2027.

Expected Impact:

This grant project seeks to increase the number of cold case prosecutions and to decrease the number of unsolved homicide cold cases in Harris County.

Alternative Options:

Not accepting this grant award would cause the Sheriff’s Office to forfeit the opportunity to receive these grant funds.
