Background and Discussion:

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) aims to increase access to its Mobile Health Services and Programs among priority communities. To achieve this goal, HCPH will host four or more Wellness on Wheels events per fiscal year, one per precinct starting in FY2024. Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and The Bread of Life Inc. will collaborate to promote health equity, creating access to services and programming to address social determinants directly to Harris County communities through health education and connections to services. The Bread of Life Inc. will also provide incentives to community members who attend the WOW events in the form of personal hygiene or household products. The Bread of Life Inc. will ensure safety in sourcing, packing, handling, and distributing the incentives and provide Harris County Public Health with a list of the incentives before the Wellness on Wheels Event.

Expected Impact:

Having the Bread of Life Inc. offer community resources, personal hygiene, and household products at the Wellness on Wheels events will help address immediate needs within the community by providing essential items that may be financially burdensome for some individuals or families to afford. By offering these products for free, the organization promotes dignity and self-care among community members who may otherwise struggle to access basic self-care necessities. By partnering with local organizations to source these products, the event fosters collaboration and strengthens community ties, as stakeholders come together to address common challenges and support one another.
