Background and Discussion: Channel P118-09-00 is a tributary of Halls Bayou in Harris County Precinct 1.  The channel was originally lined with a reinforced gunite from Gleason Rd to Bigwood Street in the 1950’s and has experienced significant deterioration of the original reinforced gunite lining.  Multiple temporary repairs have been performed over the years with rip rap in the failed areas to minimize further erosion of the channel in these failed areas. The project scope is to remove what remains of the existing concrete lining and the temporary rip rap repairs from Gleason Rd to Bigwood Street and replace the channel lining with a new concrete slope lining.  Concrete headwalls at the Bigwood, Parker and Gleason road crossings will also be repaired or replaced. This infrastructure maintenance work will be executed as a result of the passage of the “Maintenance Matters” Proposition in November 2024.

Expected Impact:

The intent of this contract is to will return the channel to the original configuration and capacity to assure it performs as intended. This will benefit the surrounding neighborhood as stormwater is better able to flow downstream thereby reducing the potential for flooding in the neighborhood.

Alternative Options:

The alternative is not to do the project, but that would result in continued deterioration of the existing gunite lining leading to an increased potential for flooding of the area neighborhoods.
