Background and Discussion:

The Behavioral Health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been profound. Harris County residents have

experienced an increase in stress, mental health crises, substance use-related deaths, suicides, and more. Harris County

approved eleven Behavioral Health awards funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). These programs

invest in programs in the following categories:

• Behavioral health workforce programs

• Counseling for youth & families

• Substance use disorder treatment

Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute for Texas was awarded funding  as a part of the Behavioral Health Workforce initiative, to implement a system-wide, evidence-based  program in the County through its Trauma and Grief Center with multiple-community based partnerships to train community-and-school based behavioral health workers in Trauma and Grief Component Therapy for youth, ages 11 through 18, whose histories of exposure to trauma and/or loss place them at high risk for persisting distress and developmental disruption

Expected Impact:

Additional clinicians will be trained on evidence-based treatment modalities for the treatment of trauma and or/bereavement in youth.  Additional youth will receive teletherapy services.

Alternative Options:

If the amendment is not approved, services will end on October 24, 2024.
