Background and Discussion:

The Housing and Urban Development Grant (HUD) Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) and the Harris County Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) primary objective is the development of viable urban communities by providing the following, principally for people of low and moderate income: lead-safe and healthy housing; a suitable living environment; and expanded economic opportunities. The funds can be used for qualifying activities including acquisition, construction, and social services. The source of the match funds will be Harris County Public Health’s current HUD Lead Abatement grant.

Expected Impact:

The expected long-range impact is to make Harris County homes lead-safe and provide healthy housing for a suitable living environment, developing viable urban communities primarily for low to moderate income, and expanded economic opportunities. Approximately 20 homes will be updated to be free of lead and other hazards.
