Background and Discussion:
The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (HCJPD) has been working with youth who have been trafficked or are at high risk of being trafficked since 2010. Grant funding is being requested for the CARE Court Program to pay for services that the participants will receive while under specialty court supervision. The CARE court is a registered specialty court in the State of Texas Specialty Court Registry (#208).
Specialty Court Project grants support specialty courts as defined in Chapter 121 of the Texas Government Code, which incorporate the essential characteristics of: 1) Family Drug Court Programs from Chapter 122 of the Texas Government Code; 2) Drug Court Programs from Chapter 123 of the Texas Government Code; 3) Veterans Court Programs from Chapter 123 of the Texas Government Code; or 4) Mental Health Court Programs from Chapter 125 of the Texas Government Code.
Expected Impact:
The participants of the CARE Court Program will be able to benefit from additional services such as therapy, advocacy, educational workshops, and training for CARE Court staff as a result of being a recipient of these grant funds.
