Background and Discussion:

With these grant funds, HCJPD aims to expand programming and support for justice-involved youth. Many of these young individuals face significant challenges, including a lack of essential skills, limited job prospects, and barriers that contribute to lower educational outcomes and increased risk of future criminality. The Opportunity Center, a former secured juvenile facility, has undergone a transformative conversion to provide justice-involved youth with streamlined access to essential support services. These services are designed to mitigate risk factors while offering workforce development solutions that can redirect youth away from future involvement in the criminal justice system, empowering them to drive both personal and community transformation.

Expected Impact:

HCJPD’s primary goal is to better support outcomes for youth and families by investing more resources in prevention and intervention programming across a community-based continuum of care in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by incarceration.  By lifting up community-based alternatives and supporting systems integration, better outcomes for all youth can be achieved.

Alternative Options:

If this grant was not awarded, HCJPD would seek alternative funding sources to support this project or implement it in phases until full realization of the program.
