Background and Discussion:
The grant application for this project was approved in Commissioners Court on June 25, 2024. Funding for this project was included as a Congressionally Directed Spending request in the FY2024 federal budget.
Expected Impact:
The purchase of stab resistant vests will enhance Detention Officer safety amongst a high population of inmates where the environment has a propensity for aggression and violence against staff. The vests will reduce the serious risk of injury for Detention Officers within the Sheriff’s Office.
Alternative Options:
If the Sheriff’s Office does not accept the award, we would forfeit the opportunity to receive congressionally directed spending that would support the purchase of Stab Resistant Vests for Detention Officers.
