Background and Discussion:

On February 6th, 2025, Commissioners Court approved authorization to negotiate with PGAL, Inc. for renovation and improvements design of the new Sheriff's Office Patrol Station (V) for the Office of the County Engineer.  Along with housing patrol units, the facility will have interview rooms, administrative offices, training and conference rooms, break rooms, and exercise and locker facilities. The Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) will relocate from the existing District 5 location off State Hwy 249 to this new location which better aligns with district patrol boundaries.

Expected Impact:

Approval of this Professional Services contract will provide a Technical Consultant to the Harris County Sheriff's Office for the new patrol station.  The new patrol station is expected to improve response times, ensure officer safety, and balance the calls for service across all HCSO districts and allow better community policing efforts, and stronger relationships with community stakeholders.  Moreover, the new Patrol Station will serve as a welcoming space for community engagement. It will facilitate outreach programs and help build stronger relationships between the Sheriff's Office and the residents of District 5.

Alternative Options:

The County could elect to reject the request. However, if not approved, the lack of Technical Consultant advising the HCSO would inhibit the ability to provide appropriate space for the new patrol station.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  1. Make Harris County safer and more just.
