Background and Discussion:

To facilitate the exchange of data between Rice University and Harris County Public Health Mosquito and Vector Control. This collaboration seeks to share surveillance data currently available in the MVCD database.   This collaboration will also support the exchange of digitized paper surveillance records to extract information and populate historic values that can be added to our current database, potentially extending records back to past decades.  Rice University is seeking to analyze historic trends in vector populations.

Expected Impact:

This collaboration will enhance the utilization of surveillance data collected for vectors and avian collections by Mosquito and Vector Control (MVC). The surveillance data will contribute to initiatives at Rice University that aim to analyze changes in vectors over time. Additionally, this collaboration will provide insights into the evolving localization of vectors in Harris County. Historical data (before 2009) from MVC surveillance will be extracted and no longer limited to digital scans and paper archives.  This effort will enhance the robustness of the MVC dataset by incorporating information from years before 2009, thereby supporting longitudinal evaluations of vectors in Harris County.   Rice University aims to support the population of the data set so that when completed, the information from decades of surveillance may support Rice in building predictive models of mosquito species in Harris County.  Predictive models of vector species and enhance our integrated pest management when working to impact disease transmission.
