Background and Discussion:

The Annual Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) Scholarship Fundraiser, established in 1978, is designed to raise funds for scholarships that support diverse business development. Proceeds from this event are used to provide scholarships to select minority entrepreneurs (active and engaged MBEs), enabling them to participate in HMSDC’s high-quality development programs or attend educational programs of their choice. These programs help enhance specific business accreditations or skills, strengthening their expertise within their industry. By building stronger MBEs, the pool of suppliers capable of competing and supporting Harris County contracts is significantly expanded.

Expected Impact:

This event provides an excellent opportunity for community engagement. This involvement will facilitate connections with local businesses and support their economic growth.

Alternative Options:

Commissioners Court can choose not to approve this sponsorship; failure to approve the sponsorship will impact DEEO’s ability to engage with this community of business and community leaders.
