Request for approval to accept from the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation - Ladies for Literacy Guild the donation of a vehicle with an estimated value of $650,000.00 to be used as a mobile library, and the project support funding of up to $250,000.00, with no required match, for technology, educational programs, and related resources and supplies.

Background and Discussion:
Curiosity Cruiser is a state-of-the-art mobile library that provides Harris County children with access to books and exciting educational programs that integrate reading with science, math, technology, writing, and the arts. The Curiosity Cruisers are staffed by Harris County Public Library employees, while books, supplies, materials, technology, and other mascot maintenance and repair costs are paid for with grant funds from Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Neither the County nor HCPL will provide any funding for the Project.
Expected Impact:
The Curiosity Cruiser inspires Harris County children to develop a love of reading and gain
access to great books and opportunities - leading to lifelong learning and the ability to reach their fullest
potential in life.
Alternative Options:
We could refuse to accept the donation, creating a need for continued funding from the Harris County
General Fund.
