Background and Discussion:

Veterinary Public Health, a division of Public Health Services, provides veterinary care and adoption services for homeless pets, a low-cost pet clinic for the public, zoonotic disease surveillance, responsible pet ownership education, as well as animal control services in neighborhoods throughout unincorporated Harris County. The funding period begins November 01, 2026, and ends October 31, 2027.

Expected Impact:

The funding from this grant will help Harris County Pets purchase essential medications to prevent and treat New World Screwworm. This funding will strengthen our preparedness, allow for rapid treatment, and help protect the health and safety of animals in our care.

Alternative Options:

The alternative options for this funding would be to use our existing funding to continue providing the services listed above, but in a limited capacity.
