Background and Discussion:

These grants will allow public health services to continue offering high quality, comprehensive, low-cost and accessible family planning and reproductive health services to low income and uninsured populations. The purpose of these programs to reduce unintended pregnancies, positively affect future pregnancies and improve the health status of women and men. Public health services conduct health events, program eligibility screening, outreach, and health education activities to ensure underserviced populations are targeted. The priority is to emphasize the importance of counseling family planning clients on establishing a reproductive life plan and providing preconception counseling as appropriate.

Expected Impact:

Improving the health of men, women, mothers, and children is critical to the future of Texas; the Health and Human Services and Women's Health programs provide a continuum of care through an array of women’s health and family planning-related services.  These services consist of providing low-income Texas women access to safe and reliable services at no cost, including screening, diagnostic, follow-up services, appropriate referrals, along with public information and education programs. Services also consist of access to health and family planning services to avert unintended pregnancies, positively affect the outcome of future pregnancies and the health and well-being of women and their families.
