Background and Discussion:
The Constable of Precinct 7 is seeking grant funds with the goal of improving the function of the criminal justice system and assisting victims of crime in Precinct 7. Precinct 7 covers more than 90 square miles in the urban area of Houston with a population of approximately 500,000 people. The program will serve the inner city of Houston, where many of the underprivileged, underserved, and vulnerable populations to human trafficking reside, supporting survivors and promoting systemic change. The grant will support Advocacy, Outreach, Education, and Investigation Initiatives.
Precinct 7 will partner with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Constables, and the Houston Police Department for outreach and administering the program.
Expected Impact:
In Texas, an estimated 313,000 people are victims of human trafficking, including approximately 79,000 minors subjected to sex trafficking. In 2024, Houston was included among the top cities for commercial sex postings, reflecting high trafficking activity. The expected outcome is the reduction of human trafficking in Harris County and the creation of a more informed, proactive community equipped to combat human trafficking.
