Background and Discussion:

This memorandum of understanding between Harris County Public Library and the Imagination Library of Greater Houston, a Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Local Program Partner is for the purpose of providing free monthly books to Houston-area families, primarily through specifically selected family service organizations that specialize in parent engagement for infants and toddlers. Harris County Public Library (HCPL) will designate a contact person as the main point of contact (Single Point of Contact) for the purpose of resolving incomplete or inaccurate information on the Imagination Library of Greater Houston (ILoGH) registration Form, as well as handling any questions regarding our collaboration.

HCPL is also responsible for instructing Family Touch Point management and staff to follow applicable confidentiality rules and regulations when dealing with personally identifiable information (PII) data on program registrants; arrange initial orientation for the staff of the Family Touch Point who will be helping parents register their children; assist interested parents in filling out the ILoGH Registration; equip and encourage families to effectively utilize the books provided by DPIL at home and collaborate with the ILoGH by capturing stories (e.g., narratives, videos, pictures) that highlight the impact the program is having on our families.

Expected Impact:

The grant is for community literacy support and to directly support family library and reading initiatives. The goal of this grant program is to enable public libraries and eligible nonprofit organizations to increase community awareness of resources available at the public library and to increase the number of local children aged 0-5 registered for participation in the monthly mail order book program.

The purpose of this MOU is to provide free monthly books to Houston-area families, primarily through specifically selected family service organizations that specialize in parent engagement for infants and toddlers
