Background and Discussion:

This grant project focuses on the prevention of foodborne illness and outbreaks, data collected informs strategies to be used to improve environmental health services provided by environmental public health food inspectors. The funding for this project supports strengthening the surveillance, response, and prevention efforts for foodborne illness in Harris County. This grant is in the fourth year of funding.

Expected Impact:

Through hosting an educational workshop for food employees paired with the institution of Active Managerial Controls (AMCs) within food establishments, aiding the prevention of foodborne illness is heightened. The ability of Public Health Services to collect food and environmental samples is also a powerful tool to assist foodborne illness and outbreak investigations.
