Background and Discussion:

The project consists of the design and construction of the northbound bridge and approaches along Greenhouse Road over Cypress Creek. The project limits are from 0.3 miles north of Winding Willow Oak Way to 0.3 miles south of Mound Rd which primarily consists of a bridge that is 1,800 feet in length. This proposed bridge typical section will be a mirror image of the existing southbound bridge which is approximately 1,800 feet with 17 spans and includes a 20-foot approach slab at each end.

The original design did not account for the bull rock beneath the bridge. To prevent erosion and sediment buildup along the sidewalk, a permanent erosion prevention best practice was required. In addition, the cost of re‑lapping the existing guardrail was not included in the plans or bid items. This contract change compensates the contractor for the additional work and time necessary to complete these tasks.

The change in contract includes the following:

New Items:

•                     Bull Rock Installation under the new bridge                     1 LS = $5,863.21

•                     Re-Lapping Guard Rail at Existing Bridge                     1 LS = $8,752.40

Expected Impact:

This change will allow the Contractor to be properly compensated for the additional work.

Alternative Options:

Conduct thorough pre-construction assessments and detailed utility mapping to identify and mitigate potential conflicts early.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.
