Background and Discussion:

The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (HCJPD) has received grant funding for the GRIP Juvenile Specialty Court Program on an annual basis for several years.  This grant funding pays for services that the participants receive while under specialty court supervision.  This specialty court is a registered specialty court in the State of Texas Specialty Court Registry (#281). Specialty Court Project grants support specialty courts as defined in Chapter 121 of the Texas Government Code.

Expected Impact:

The participants of the GRIP Juvenile Specialty Court are able to benefit from additional services such as GPS monitoring, on-line probation and court ordered classes that encompass a wide range of topics that include but are not limited to anger management, decision making, life and parenting skills, drug and alcohol education, and interventions for criminal thinking, as well as therapeutic services and training for GRIP staff as a result of being a recipient of these grant funds.

Alternative Options:

The items requested in the grant budget for the GRIP Specialty Court Program would be paid out of the general fund budget if the grant funds are not awarded to HCJPD.
