Background and Discussion:

The propose of the project is to acquire the property for a proposed stormwater detention basin to mitigate the impacts of increased flows from road improvements in the area through the Cedar Bayou Sub-Regional Stormwater Detention Basin Right-of-Way Acquisition Project. The Flood Control District will purchase the property, while the cost of the property will be shared between the City of Baytown and the Flood Control District, with each party contributing a maximum of $1,550,000, with the total of $3,100,000 toward the acquisition of the property, under the agreement no. 2022-64.

Expected Impact:

It is anticipated that the purchase of this property will provide the location for a future basin, that along with other identified future projects in the watershed, will lead to the removal of 152 structures from the floodplain during 100-year storm events and 334 structures during 500-year storm events and also provide flood detention volume for the City of Baytown.

Alternative Options:

Not acquiring the property would prohibit the realization of benefits for the area.
