Background and Discussion:

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) opened a call for grant applications for the 2025 Recreational Trails grant program in late 2024. The application is to be submitted by the County to TPWD by February 3, 2025. Award notification is expected mid-2025.

If the grant application is approved, the TPWD Local Parks Program funds will be used for improving a section of trail at Terry Hershey Park. The goal of the improvements will be to enhance and upgrade the space to maximize public engagement and impact to the community.

Office of Commissioner, Precinct 4, requests approval for Harris County to apply for the grant for Terry Hershey Park trail improvements in the amount of $300,000 for the purpose of enhancing access to quality trails and recreational spaces in Harris County.

Expected Impact:

TPWD Local Parks Program funds for Terry Hershey Park trail improvements will ensure a more accessible and sustainable recreational trail for the community.
