Request by the Sheriff’s Office for approval to accept from the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority grant funds in the amount of $1,240,191, with a required cash match of $248,040 and in-kind match of $2,881,259, for the FY27 Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) Task Force Grant for the Auto Theft Unit and to extend associated positions to August 31, 2027.

Background and Discussion:
This grant would provide funding for the Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Unit during the period of September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027. This would be the 34th year receiving the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority grant.
Expected Impact:
This grant would provide funding for the Auto Theft Unit to continue combatting motor vehicle burglary, motor vehicle theft, and fraud-related motor vehicle crime and continue participation with the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority, which fosters a statewide collaborative network amongst auto theft units.
This grant will provide funding for the Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Unit for the period of September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027.
