Background and Discussion:

Commissioners Court accepted the FY 2023 HIDTA award on August 29, 2023. An award modification was approved by Commissioners on October 31, 2023. High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) grant program seeks to enhance and coordinate efforts among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States. Grant funds will be used to pay for the salary and benefits of an analyst, overtime costs, vehicle rental costs, facility and equipment lease, and any other associated costs for the HIDTA program.

Expected Impact:

There will be no impact to the general fund budget. No required match for this grant. The award is decreasing by $2,632.88. Grant funds will enable the department to continue providing several law enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing the supply and trafficking of illegal drugs.
