Background and Discussion:

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is committed to building trust, fostering collaboration, and strengthening relationships across Harris County’s diverse community. Through engagement efforts, DAO works to ensure that every voice is heard and every resident feels connected to the work of the office.

These efforts reflect DAO’s commitment to creating a justice system that is transparent, community-centered, and responsive to the evolving needs of Harris County. Through community engagement, DAO is working every day to make Harris County safer, fairer, and stronger.

Event participation is a part of DAO’s program to engage the community.  True justice requires listening and responding to the needs of the community. DAO partners with neighborhood associations, schools, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and local leaders to create open lines of communication and to collaborate on solutions. These events allow DAO to meet residents where they are, educating the public on crime prevention, raising awareness about victims’ rights, and building trust between law enforcement and the communities we serve.

Some of the events under consideration include the 4th of July Parade, the Juneteenth celebration, the Houston Pride Parade, and others.

Expected Impact:

The community engagement brought about through these events will increase public awareness on crime prevention and victims’ rights.  It will also help to build trust with the community to further true justice goals.

Alternative Options:

These events are the most forthright to engage the community.  DAO could lower its community engagement efforts and not participate in these events.
