Background and Discussion:

The project consists of excavating the southern compartment of a stormwater detention basin within the former Castlewood subdivision to reduce flooding along the P138-00-00 channel that drains to Greens Bayou. Changes to the contract are required due to the following:

Harris County Engineering Department’s Permitting Review, which identified the need to change from two 18” Reinforced Concrete Pipes (RCP) to a single 24” RCP at the project driveway.

The bid failed to establish a dedicated bid item for trench shoring for excavation.

Expected Impact:

This change in contract is needed in order to complete the construction contract for this project. The requested items will ensure the work is completed properly.

Alternative Options:

This is an active construction contract, so there are not many alternatives to approving a change order for this $1,732.24 amount. The other option would be to cancel the contract and procure a new contractor. This is not recommended, as doing so would substantially delay the remaining work in the construction contract.
