Background and Discussion:

This project is in Northwest Harris County in both the White Oak Bayou and Cypress Creek watersheds. It is west of N. Eldridge Parkway and north of Cypress North Houston Road. The drainage system is currently roadside ditches. The proposed improvements are to regrade the roadside ditches, install a storm sewer system below the ditches, and connect to the K500-01-00 detention basin expansion project for mitigation on this project.

 

The change in contract includes the following:

 

The line items are adjusted to reconcile existing bid items, add new line item quantities to the project for completion of the proposed scope of work.

 

                     The decrease of existing bid Item quantities for line item numbers 16, 17, 18, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42 for a deduction in the amount of $933,673.34.

 

New Line Items:

 

                     Add a new line item “5 feet X 5 Feet Concrete Junction Box”, Unit of Measure Each, Unit Cost $10,000.00, Quantity 1 Each for an additional cost of $10,000.00.

                     Add a new line item “6 feet X 6 feet Concrete Junction Box”, Unit of Measure Each, Unit Cost $12,387.34, Quantity 2 Each for an additional cost of $24,774.68.

                     Add a new line item “7 feet X 4 feet Concrete Junction Box”, Unit of Measure Each, Unit Cost $17,887.73, Quantity 6 Each for an additional cost of $107,326.38.

                     Add a new line item “8 feet X 8 feet Concrete Junction Box”, Unit of Measure Each, Unit Cost $42,612.91, Quantity 1 Each for an additional cost of $42,612.91.

                     Add a new line item “10 feet X 5 feet Concrete Junction Box”, Unit of Measure Each, Unit Cost $43,569.80, Quantity 8 Each for an additional cost of $348,558.40.

                     Add a new line item “Fly ash for Subgrade treatment”, Unit of Measure Tons, Unit Cost $216.45, Quantity 425.15 Tons for an additional cost of $92,023.72.

                     Add a new line item “Lime/Fly ash Treatment (8-inch depth)”, Unit of Measure Square Yards, Unit Cost $6.75, Quantity 14,520 Square yards for an additional cost of $98,010.00.

 

The above additions and deductions result in a net change in the amount of ($196,872.07).

 

Expected Impact:

This project seeks to reduce flooding and strengthen resiliency in Harris County by assisting in the alleviation of structural flood damage to homes in the Dowdell Woods subdivision.

 

Alternative Options:

The County could elect to fund the requested task or choose to reject it. However, if not approved, the contractor will not be able to complete the scope of work.
