Request by the Commissioner of Precinct 1 for ratification of the reallocation of $330,000 of FLEX Fund (1040) from the design and installation of infrastructure improvements in Cypress Station and $262,103.30 of FLEX Fund (1040) from the design and installation of infrastructure improvements in Sunnyside to the design and installation of civic art projects in Sunnyside (in the amount of $571,599.73) and to the design and installation of civic art projects in Cypress Station (in the amount of $20,503.57) as part of the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Program.

Background and Discussion:

On 06/07/2023, Commissioners Court approved the allocation of $3.8 million towards the design and installation of infrastructure improvements in the Sunnyside and Cypress Station communities as part of the CPTED program. This reallocation was necessitated by implementation barriers encountered during the infrastructure design phase. To ensure these vital funds remained in the designated communities and fulfilled their original public safety purpose, $592,103.30 was moved from infrastructure improvements to civic art projects.

Expected Impact:

Under Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) guidelines, public artistic infrastructure effectively reduces crime by fostering community ownership and improving the physical environment of high-visibility corridors.
