Background and Discussion:
The project replaces a failed 60" Tideflex Duckbill Check Valve with a new 60" cast iron Flap Gate with headwall and wingwalls in northeast Harris County. This project removes the failed 60" Tideflex Duckbill Check Valve to P124-00-00 from the adjoining drainage area and replaces it with a 60" Flap Gate. The purpose of this contract change is to add a concrete collar to connect the new 60" reinforced concrete pipe to the existing manhole and extend construction days based on actual weather days. The contract change includes $3,338 for the concrete collar installation and 37 additional inclement weather days.
Expected Impact:
This change will allow the contractor to construct the project so that Harris County can realize intended flood risk reduction benefits.
Alternative Options:
This is an active construction contract, so there are not many alternatives to approving a change order other than cancelling the contract which is not recommended as doing so would substantially delay the remaining work in the construction contract.
