Background and Discussion:

Harris County Precinct 3 has been looking to expand our Community Center footprint in the Atascocita area.  This parcel is located next to Atascocita Park and is surrounded by 3 sides of Harris County Right-of-Way making it a natural addition to the Harris County Parks and Community Center system. The building on the parcel is approximately 8,500 SF and site is in good condition and repair and is an open structure.  We anticipate that we will be able to have at least 5 rooms that will be available to the public for future programing.

Expected Impact:

After acquisition of this parcel Harris County would have a new community center in the Atascocita/Humble area that they would be able to serve the public with.  Community Centers often serve some of the neediest residents with programs and resources.  Some of the programs include educational classes, Arts and Crafts classes, Exercise Classes, as well as language classes.

Alternative Options:

Harris County could not acquire this parcel and in lieu of that either 1) No community center could be created in this area and there would be a large Community Center Desert or 2) a separate parcel could be acquired a new building could be constructed or 3) additional research could be done and another parcel / building could be acquired.
