Background and Discussion:
The Women’s Health Family Planning grant is awarded annually for the fiscal period from September 1 through August 31. As with Amendment 1, Harris County Public Health continues advancing its mission by requesting additional grant funding to expand clinic capacity, strengthen outreach, and restore essential women’s health services that were previously limited. Earlier challenges such as inconsistent care delivery and resource constraints among community providers underscore the continued need for investment in comprehensive reproductive and preventive healthcare.
With this Notice to Proceed, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission has awarded an additional $5,808, reflecting a smaller but still meaningful increase compared to the prior amendment. These funds reinforce the County’s commitment to health equity and ensure that women and families maintain reliable access to essential Family Planning services in underserved areas.
Expected Impact:
The additional $5,808 will continue to support efforts emphasized in Amendment 1, including expanding client reach and sustaining laboratory testing essential for early identification of chronic and reproductive health conditions. Even though this increase is smaller than the amount awarded under Amendment 1, it still contributes to improved early detection and timely interventions, which help reduce long‑term complications related to inadequate prenatal and postpartum care.
