Background and Discussion:

This project includes Replace existing concrete bollards with Granite bollards at Sylvan Beach Park.

The change order includes:

-                     Due to the critical timeline of the project, the original bollard specification with the specified color and material required a lead time of 38 weeks for delivery.  To prevent delays that would negatively impact the project schedule and operations, it was necessary to expedite the shipping timeline.  The alternate bollard color and material provide a delivery timeframe of 14 weeks, significantly reducing the lead time by 24 weeks.  The alternate option meets all functional and safety requirements while aligning with the project's schedule and budget constraints. This change order ensures the project progresses on time without compromising quality or functionality.  This change order adds additional cost of $13,500 and no additional days.

-                     In July, Hurricane Barry caused significant damage to 15 bollards installed as part of the project.  The extreme weather conditions resulted in unforeseen damage that necessitated their replacement to restore the safety and functionality of the affected area.  This change adds additional cost of $26,499.66, and additional 75 days.

Expected Impact:

Increase the total cost for the contract and adding additional days to the contract time.

Alternative Options:

No action will result in substandard construction.
