Background and Discussion:

Precinct 4 requests approval to provide bus transportation support for Leadership Houston’s Education for the Future Class Day scheduled for March 6, 2026. Leadership Houston, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1982, engages diverse civic, corporate, nonprofit, and entrepreneurial leaders through a ten-month leadership development program focused on Houston’s history, key industries, and civic challenges. Its mission is to enlighten, empower, and engage community leaders, and its programming includes monthly immersive learning sessions led by industry experts.

The March 6 Education Day session will host approximately 50 emerging and established leaders for a full-day educational program highlighting the structure and operations of the Greater Houston education system. Scheduled activities include presentations, panel discussions, facility tours, and interactive sessions held at the Harris County Department of Education Adult Education Building and the Alief ISD Marshall Center for Advanced Careers. Transportation is needed to facilitate movement between program sites.

This initiative supports community engagement and leadership development by exposing participants to public-sector operations and local educational institutions. The program fosters civic awareness and encourages long-term leadership involvement benefiting Greater Houston and its stakeholders.

Expected Impact:

Providing transportation will enable Leadership Houston participants to fully engage in a structured education-focused learning day designed to deepen civic awareness and strengthen understanding of regional education systems. The event is expected to support leadership development, promote informed civic participation, and enhance collaboration between public-sector agencies and community leaders. The program benefits a diverse cohort of local professionals who are positioned to influence and contribute to community improvement initiatives across the Greater Houston area.

Alternative Options:

Not approving this request would cause the organizers to find alternative transportation.
