title
Transmittal by the Commissioner of Precinct 4 of a grant application submitted to the U.S. Department of Transportation for grant funds in the amount of $4,390,000, with no required match, for the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-saving Transportation (PROTECT) Planning Grant (Spring Creek Resilience and Corridor Connectivity Project).
end
Background and Discussion:
The U.S. DOT PROTECT grant program provides federal funding to help communities improve the resilience of transportation infrastructure to natural hazards, climate change, and extreme weather events. Funding supports resilience planning and infrastructure improvements designed to reduce risks from flooding, severe storms, extreme heat, and other hazards.
The project will advance resilience planning, preliminary engineering, and design development for four priority north-south roadway bridge crossings of Spring Creek: Hegar, Nichols, Roberts Cemetery, and Mueschke Roads.
Expected Impact:
If awarded, the grant will provide funds to develop a plan to address a critical transportation resilience challenge in the Spring Creek watershed at four bridge crossings along Hegar Road, Nichols Road, Roberts Cemetery Road, and Mueschke Road. These corridors provide essential north-south connectivity between Harris County Precinct 4, Waller County Precinct 2, and Montgomery County Precinct 2, connecting rapidly growing residential areas to employment centers, schools, healthcare facilities, and emergency services.
Alternative Options:
To not apply for the grant funding to develop this plan.
