Background and Discussion:
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded Public Health Services for the non-competitive application in response to Congressional Directive Spending Projects in SAMHSA's Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriation. This funding allows Public Health Services to deliver services that promote mental health, prevent substance misuse, and provide treatments and supports to foster recovery while ensuring equitable access and better outcomes. HCPH initiated Maternal Mental Health Services. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) funding aims to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality rates associated with childbirth by focusing on maternal mental health.
Expected Impact:
This project aims to increase access to comprehensive maternal mental healthcare for birthing persons and their families. The goal of this project is to reduce risks associated with maternal mortality rates and morbidities related to childbirth. Goals: 1. Increase access to mental health services for mothers during and after pregnancy 2. Increase access to mental health services for family members of the mother during and after pregnancy. 3. Increase knowledge about mental health services offered to families 4. Increased access to care regarding social and support services 5.
