Background and Discussion:

The original basketball pavilion immediately adjacent to the community center at Barbara Jordan Park was evaluated for structural integrity after damage was observed at the bases of the steel columns. The purpose of this contract change is to reconcile quantities and extend contract duration to fifty-one additional days (thirty days for the drainage system, fourteen days due to inclement weather and park closure and seven days for painting the underside of pavilion.

Expected Impact:

The new pavilion trench drain system will not be completed and visitors will not enjoy the outdoor space and resume community activities previously held once again under the pavilion.

Alternative Options:

Should we not move forward with this change in order we would move forward with a precast system that has ten-month lead time according to Formative Structures, LLC and the pavilion will not be painted.  Additionally, there are not many alternatives to approving a change order other than cancelling the contract which is not recommended as doing so would substantially delay the remaining work in the construction contract.
