Background and Discussion:

The Interim County Purchasing Agent (Paige McInnis) was appointed by the Purchasing Agent Board for the term beginning September 23, 2024 and ending July 23, 2025. Pursuant to Section 262.011(c) of the Texas Local Government Code, the Purchasing Agent “must execute a bond in the amount of $5,000, payable to the county, conditioned that the individual will faithfully perform the duties of county purchasing agent.” Further, Section 88.008 of the Texas Local Government Code permits Commissioners Court by order to authorize Harris County to self-insure against losses that would have been covered by the bond. It is recommended to self-insure the bond requirement of the Interim Purchasing Agent. Upon approval, the order will be kept and recorded by the County Clerk.

Expected Impact: N/A

Alternative Options:

Harris County could purchase a bond instead of self-insuring the requirement.
