Background and Discussion:

The Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity (DEEO) requests approval to participate as a Supporting Sponsor of the 8th Annual Real Estate & Construction Summit (REC 2026), to be held on October 29, 2026, at the GSH Event Center, 9950 W Bellfort Ave., Houston, Texas 77031.

Hosted by the American Turkic Business Council (ATBC) in partnership with the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), BISNOW, and the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), the summit is a premier networking and business development event for professionals in the real estate, construction, architecture, development, and design industries. HAR.com is serving as the event's Signature Sponsor. The summit will convene developers, investors, builders, contractors, architects, public officials, small business owners, and other key industry stakeholders from across the Greater Houston region.

Participation as a Supporting Sponsor will provide DEEO with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with businesses and industry leaders while increasing awareness of Harris County programs and resources. Specifically, DEEO will promote initiatives such as the Worksite Safety Program, as well as contracting, technical assistance, and business development opportunities available to small, minority-, women-, and disadvantaged-owned businesses. The event also provides a platform to educate attendees on County procurement opportunities and encourage participation in Harris County's supplier and contractor network.

Sponsorship of REC 2026 aligns with DEEO's mission to advance equitable economic opportunity by strengthening relationships with the business community, expanding outreach to diverse industries, and fostering inclusive participation in County programs and contracting opportunities. Participation supports the department's strategic objectives of promoting workforce safety, increasing engagement with underrepresented businesses, and enhancing economic development throughout Harris County.

Expected Impact:

Approval of this sponsorship will enhance DEEO's outreach efforts by increasing visibility among industry professionals and small business stakeholders, expanding awareness of County resources and contracting opportunities, and strengthening partnerships that support economic growth and business development throughout Harris County.

Alternative Options:

If not approved, DEEO may attend the event in a non-sponsorship capacity or pursue alternative outreach and engagement opportunities; however, the department would forgo the sponsorship recognition and enhanced visibility associated with participation as a Supporting Sponsor.
