Background and Discussion:

Public Health Services is seeking the court’s approval to request and accept a no-cost extension of the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) grant funds to support the Community Health and Violence Prevention Services (CHVPS) division. The extension will support the provision of transportation and psychiatric services to the newly approved Relentless Interrupters Services Everyone (RISE) expansion.  Public Health Service (PHS) was awarded three years of funding through the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the CVIPI grant in 2022. This grant aims to support community-based efforts to reduce violence and improve public safety through evidence-based intervention and prevention strategies. Throughout the grant period, PHS has made significant progress in implementing key program activities, including outreach, community engagement, and data collection. To ensure full utilization of the remaining grant funds and to complete the planned project objectives effectively, the PHS respectfully requests a no-cost extension.

Expected Impact:

This extension will allow PHS to finalize ongoing activities, including community workshops, training sessions, and evaluation efforts, without the need for additional funding. By extending the grant period at no extra cost, PHS will maximize the impact of the DOJ investment, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure comprehensive reporting of outcomes. The no-cost extension will support the continued commitment to violence prevention and public health improvements within the community. Specifically, this extension will enable PHS to continue essential services, including external evaluation, vendor-based transportation for program participants, and mental health crisis stabilization, psychiatric services through The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, and training and travel to relevant conferences for violence prevention services.
